Renewal of IGBC Green Rating

IGBC encourages 'Renewal of Green Building Rating' at the end of the validity. The objective is to facilitate building owners & facility managers to enhance the green building performance in the long run. The renewal process will facilitate the Green Buildings to achieve further savings in terms of energy and water consumption. This also creates an opportunity for the project to achieve higher level of Green Building rating

In this regard, please note the following points:
  • Renewal is applicable for all projects which are IGBC green-rated from 1 October 2019 onward. Validity period for IGBC rated projects would be 3 yrs (for buildings) and 5 yrs (for large developments like cities, campuses, etc).
  • Renewal of projects would require minimal documentation. Documents need to be submitted only for those credit points which have impacts on the building operation. A checklist in this regard would be made available shortly.
  • For renewal, the project shall submit the documentation only once for IGBC review. The renewal certification will be issued within 30 days from the date of submission.
  • For the renewal process, the project is not required to pay any registration fee. The old registration number would hold good if the project has applied for renewal under the same IGBC Green Rating. If the project is applying for renewal under another IGBC rating system, a new registration number will be allotted.

Renewal Process for IGBC Pre-certified Projects

Case 1: Project submitting periodic six-monthly reports regularly
  • The project owner can write to IGBC to re-validate / renew the project pre-certification based on the virtual site visit. The certificate validity would be extended by one-year with no additional fee.
    • Example: A pre-certified project wherein a certificate is about to expire,the project certificate validity is extended by one year based on submission of periodic project updates every six months.
    • For pre-certified township, the validity would be extended by two years.
  • This process would continue till the project submits for final certification.
Case 2: Six-monthly project updates NOT submitted by project to IGBC
  • Renewal of Precertification:

    The project team has not submitted the six-monthly project updates during the 3 years period. In case such projects need extension for precertification certificate validity.

    • The project needs to apply for precertification again with standard fee. The project would be treated as new project with same registration number.

  • Opting for Final Certification:

    The project can apply for Certification closer to the completion of the project.
