As part of the project titled "Facilitating the Uptake of Net Zero Energy Buildings in India by Enabling the Development of Policy Mechanisms and Supporting Ecosystem," IGBC conducted a study focused on developing recommendations for a Net Zero Energy Policy Framework, grounded in an economic impact analysis.
This study provides a comprehensive assessment, including a review of the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC), the current status of its implementation in selected states, and an evaluation of the policy and regulatory frameworks governing renewable energy (RE)–based power generation. It also includes an analysis of state-level RE and solar policies. Furthermore, the study examines the economic feasibility of rooftop solar installations under both net and gross metering mechanisms, as guided by existing policy and regulatory provisions. The states selected for this economic impact analysis are Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
Duration: 2021-2022
Thematic Areas: Energy efficiency, Renewable Energy, Net Zero Energy
Funders and Supporters: Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation
To promote the concept of Net Zero Energy Budlings in India and to create an eco-system for zero energy buildings, in early 2022 both CESL (Convergence Energy Service Limited) and IGBC kick-started a joint initiative. The collaboration of CESL and IGBC is supported by JICA (Japan International Corporation Agency). Scope of the initiative is to facilitate conversion of existing buildings into Net Zero Energy which can enable the project to achieve high energy efficiency in operation and can off-set grid energy use by Renewable Sources at least 80%.
Key tasks of the joint initiative: :
Duration : February 2022- September 2022
Thematic Areas : Net Zero Energy, Renewable Energy, Measurement & Verification.
Funders and Supporters : Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL)
