Did you know that in 2021 the emergency departments recorded nearly 3 million visits for older adult falls? CDC identifies anyone over 65 as an older adult and at risk of falling. Ground-level falls are the leading cause of injury death for older adults in the United States. A fall can significantly reduce an older adult’s function and independence depending on the severity of the fall. The good news is that although falls are prevalent, they can be prevented. Irrespective of age the risk factors can be significantly decreased or modified.
CDC uses data and research to help prevent falls and save lives as a result the Stopping Elderly Accidents, Deaths & Injuries (STEADI) was initiated. We at ProActive Physical Therapy utilize comprehensive screening tools to identify fall risk, assess modifiable risk factors, and intervene with an evidence-based fall prevention program. We assess for and address posture, flexibility, strength, gait deficits, speed, endurance, and functional mobility.
